Feeling of the Week: Present
Present = Attention + Safety
Being present isn’t just about mindfulness...it’s about safety. When your body feels safe, your mind can stay here. When it doesn’t, your awareness time-travels backward to protect you or forward to prepare for what might go wrong.
The present moment lives in the body, not the brain. You can’t think your way into presence; you have to feel your way there. Notice your breath. Notice your feet. Notice the subtle shift when you let your shoulders drop and your jaw soften. That’s your body saying, “I’m safe enough to stay.”
During the holidays, presence can feel like a luxury. The pace, the noise, and the emotional static make it easy to leave yourself, to perform, protect, or predict. But real presence isn’t about perfect focus. It’s about returning, again and again, to yourself.
Presence doesn’t erase pain or tension. It simply gives you a place to stand while you face them. It’s the foundation of emotional endurance...the capacity to stay with what is instead of spiraling into what was or fearing what might be.
This week, notice the moments you drift and gently bring yourself back. Try saying, “I’m here now.” No blame, no fix, just arrival.
Presence is power, not because it changes everything around you, but because it reconnects you to the only place you can actually regulate: right here.
